The Power of Divine Love and the Purification of the Heart

Discourse of Huzoor Wala Shan Pir Sahib (May Allah Have Mercy on Him)

Date: 18 January 1986

Discourse No.40

﷽

All praise is for Allah.

Countless thanks to Allah Almighty, the Master of all dominion, who has once again granted us the opportunity and ability to gather here for His pleasure, in His remembrance and in His love. Millions and billions of blessings and salutations be upon the Leader of the Prophets, the Beloved of Allah, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH), through whose blessed grace this favor has reached us.

Respected listeners!

As is our established practice, let us begin the recitation of the sacred Awrad. From the cradle to the grave, and thereafter until the Day of Resurrection, human beings remain surrounded by difficulties. At every stage and in every condition, they need Divine support.

When the love of Allah Almighty and His Messenger (PBUH) is present in a person’s heart, then instead of the person bowing before circumstances, circumstances begin to bow before him. Indeed, circumstances begin to take shape according to his wishes. No worldly hardship or suffering can truly overwhelm him or plunge him into sorrow. Rather, every grief becomes a source of consolation for him, gives him a strange kind of spiritual delight, and becomes a means of his progress and honor.

This happens because his heart becomes purified. Then that heart becomes, as it were, the Throne of Allah Almighty, and such a heart becomes worthy of respect throughout the entire universe. He develops the certainty that the One who is the Master and Creator of everything, the One in Whose power all things lie, will grant him His mercy and assistance. He knows that he has endured everything for the sake of His pleasure, and this realization becomes his greatest wealth.

But when can this state be attained, and how can the heart become purified?

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that when a person commits a mistake, a stain appears upon his heart. Then, because of worldly circumstances, that stain continues to grow until the entire heart becomes darkened. But when such a person seeks forgiveness from Allah Almighty by reciting His name in repentance, that stain is removed.

Today, the condition is such that, because of worldly distractions and our heedlessness toward Allah Almighty, hearts have become darkened. Therefore, these sacred Awrad have been initiated so that, through their blessings, their spiritual illumination, and through their means, our hearts may become completely purified. May the spiritual truths and radiant teachings contained within the blessed heart of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) become reflected in our own hearts.

Then, through that Divine light, the religious and worldly difficulties of those present in this gathering may find their remedy, and they may become immersed in everlasting spiritual joy.

You may remember that Allah Almighty has mentioned in the Holy Qur’an that when the staff of Hazrat Musa (AS) became a serpent and swallowed the serpents produced by the magicians, they immediately recognized the power of Allah and accepted faith.

Pharaoh then announced their punishment, saying, in effect:

“You have believed in the Lord of Musa without my permission. Now I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will not stop there; I will also crucify you.”

The magicians had spent their entire lives in humiliation and disgrace, earning their livelihood through the degraded profession of magic. For such people, this punishment was like the sky falling upon them.

One might have expected them to lose consciousness, fall prostrate before Pharaoh, and become ready to plead and beg for mercy. But the moment they sincerely accepted Allah as their Lord, such a profound transformation took place within them that not even the slightest trace of fear remained.

With complete peace of heart, they replied:

قَالُوْا لَا ضَيْرَ ۡ اِنَّآ اِلٰى رَبِّنَا مُنْقَلِبُوْنَ

“They said: There is no harm. Indeed, we are returning to our Lord.”

(Surah Ash-Shu’ara, 26:50)

Consider, then, what a person’s life becomes when he turns away from Allah and places his reliance upon his own worldly resources, and how completely his life changes when he becomes entirely devoted to Allah.

These sacred Awrad are meant to help us attain that very kind of life.

Now, let us begin.

Bismillah-ir-Rahmanir-Rahim

The Awrad-e-Naziriyyah Sharif were recited, followed by supplication.
