Complete Submission to Allah – The Path to True Success

A Spiritual Discourse on Divine Love, Obedience, and Steadfastness in Faith

(Address of Hazrat Pir Sahib (RA) – 6 April 1985)

Speech No.11

All praise is for Allah.

We are immensely grateful to Allah Almighty that the Lord of all creation has once again granted us the opportunity and privilege to gather here for His pleasure, in His remembrance, and in His love. Countless blessings and salutations be upon the Leader of all Prophets, the Beloved of Allah, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa SAWW, through whose blessed mediation these divine favors have reached us.

Respected listeners!

Allah Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an:

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوا ادْخُلُوْا فِي السِّلْمِ كَاۗفَّةً

(Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 208)

This means that Allah Almighty has appointed human beings as His vicegerents on earth. Allah desires that man should become a manifestation of His will—that he should desire only what Allah desires and do only what Allah commands. In this way, every word and action of a person would emerge in accordance with the pleasure of Allah.

When this happens, man truly becomes Allah’s vicegerent and the leader of creation. He is then able to benefit fully from the universe and all the blessings that Allah has created for his use. Furthermore, he becomes deserving of the rewards and favors that Allah has prepared for him in the Hereafter. Thus, he attains success and happiness in both this world and the next.

However, if a person obeys Allah in some matters and follows his own desires in others, then neither is his faith complete, nor does he truly reflect the will of Allah. Consequently, he cannot fully benefit from Allah’s blessings. Such a person remains at the level of an animal, wandering from door to door, dependent upon others and placing his hopes in worldly means.

The Example of the Reed Flute

مولانا روم صاحب رحمت اللہ علیہ has beautifully advised mankind in the Masnavi Sharif:

با لب دم ساز توگر جفتمے

ہم چو نے من گفتینیہا گفتمے

“If I had been united with the lips of my Companion, then like the reed flute, I too would have spoken many hidden truths.”

This means that if my connection with my Creator had been as complete as the connection between a flute and the musician who plays it, then the thoughts and intentions of the musician would be expressed through the sound of the flute.

The flute itself possesses no power. It is merely a dry piece of reed. The beautiful melody is not its own; it comes from the one who plays it. If even the slightest disconnect occurs between the flute and the musician, the melody ceases, and only meaningless sounds remain.

Likewise, when a person maintains a sincere and complete connection with Allah, every word and action of his life reflects the will of his Lord. Such a person becomes Allah’s true servant, His representative on earth, and the leader of creation. The entire universe becomes subservient to him by the permission of Allah. What he desires in accordance with Allah’s pleasure comes to pass. He enjoys happiness in this world and success in the Hereafter.

The Blessing of Divine Love

It is a great favor of Allah that He has granted those present in this gathering the love of their Lord. It is this divine love that brought you out of your homes and gathered you here today. In doing so, you have become the guests of Allah and have become deserving of His mercy and blessings.

Your hearts and minds should now become firmly attached to Allah so that no worldly influence can enter and diminish your honor, your value, your happiness, or your independence.

The purpose of our gathering and the recitation of the Divine Names is to demonstrate our yearning for Allah’s love and to become worthy of receiving it. Through these blessed names, we seek Allah’s help and pray that He grants us steadfastness and firmness in faith. We ask Him to cover our shortcomings and negligence with His mercy and make us His true servants.

Come, let us invoke the blessed names of Allah and knock upon the door of the Most Merciful.

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

The Awrad-e-Naziriyah Sharif were recited, and a collective supplication (Dua) was offered.
