Discourse No. 46

All Praise is for Allah

Countless thanks to Allah Almighty, the Owner and Sovereign of the entire kingdom, Who has once again granted us the opportunity and ability to gather here for His pleasure, in His remembrance and in His love.

Millions and billions of blessings and peace be upon the Leader of the Prophets, the Beloved of Allah, حضرت محمد مصطفیٰ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ, through whose blessed means this grace has been bestowed upon us.

Dear members of the gathering! As is our usual practice, we recite the blessed Awraad. Before doing so, there are two or three matters that we need to understand.

Allah Almighty is Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem, meaning that He is immensely Merciful. Just as He Himself is Everlasting, this attribute of His is also everlasting and never-ending.

Although Allah may punish a person because of his sins and mistakes, even while He is administering punishment, His attribute of mercy remains present. If, at that very moment, a person has complete faith in this attribute and turns his attention toward it, the mercy of Allah takes him into its embrace, and he is forgiven.

Therefore, whenever a storm or difficulty appears to be approaching, whatever its apparent nature may be, there is goodness for a person within it. From the One whose mercy is limitless, it cannot be expected that He would allow someone to remain without His mercy.

For example, when severe cold arrives, snow falls, and rain comes, people may think that these things are a punishment for them. Yet there is great benefit for creation within these very conditions. This season becomes a means of producing sweet fruits and agricultural crops, helps drive away diseases, and contains many other blessings and treasures that we may not even know about.

Likewise, when the heat of summer arrives, a person of little understanding begins to complain, saying, “How unbearable this heat is!” He does not realize that this very heat gives life to the earth, crops, and fruits, and helps them mature and ripen. It also contributes to the proper circulation of blood. Furthermore, there is another important matter: if the weather always remained exactly the same, human beings would become bored. Neither constant heat nor constant cold, nor an unchanging season, would please them.

The Holy Qur’an states:

لِاِيْلٰفِ قُرَيْشٍ۝ اٖلٰفِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاۗءِ وَالصَّيْفِ۝ فَلْيَعْبُدُوْا رَبَّ هٰذَا الْبَيْتِ۝ الَّذِيْٓ اَطْعَمَهُمْ مِّنْ جُوْعٍ ڏ وَّاٰمَنَهُمْ مِّنْ خَوْفٍ ۝

Surah Quraysh

Translation:

Allah Almighty has created the seasons of winter and summer as part of the livelihood and benefit of the Quraysh. Then Allah commands them to worship the Lord of this House, meaning that they should humble themselves before Him—He Who has provided them with food when they were hungry and granted them security when they were in fear.

A human being does not bring food with him when he enters this world. Rather, as soon as he is born, Allah Almighty creates milk for him in his mother’s breast.

Then can anyone imagine how many dangers and attacks surround a human being in this world, and how many of them Allah prevents and protects him from?

It has been said that if a person were to walk with a microscope placed before his eyes, it would become impossible for him even to take a single step. There would appear to be an enormous attack of germs everywhere.

Apart from this, every change and condition in the world can apparently create fear and apprehension. Yet even within these circumstances, there is great benefit for human beings.

In short, everything has been created for the benefit of humanity. The universe and everything within it exists for the betterment of human beings, while the human being himself exists solely for the remembrance of God.

Satan and the followers of the lower self attempt to mislead a person at every step. Whenever something is beneficial for him, they either frighten him with it, making him lose his understanding and courage, and thereby divert him toward themselves instead of toward the remembrance of God; or they make him so absorbed in the blessings of Allah that he forgets the One Who bestowed those blessings upon him. Thus, a person becomes completely immersed in the blessings themselves.

These blessed Awraad are a means through which we seek the help of Allah, so that whether we are facing hardship or ease, prosperity or sorrow, we may continue to remember our Lord and maintain hope in Him.

May nothing ever be able to distance us from Him.

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

The blessed Awraad-e-Naziriyyah were recited, followed by a supplication.
